Who Was Bud Nielsen
Bud Nielsen was a family man at heart and a giving person all of his life. He was a generous husband, doting father and wise businessman with a passion for supporting his community in every phase of his life. A competitive golfer he enjoyed the game growing up and even more when he retired. He could be found on the golf course year-round in an effort to continually improve his skills. In 2008, Bud experienced disparate symptoms that were perplexing to his doctor and after many appointments and tests, he was diagnosed with ALS. Ten years ago, there was significantly less public awareness around this disease and in many areas of the country, there were scarce resources for the patients and families facing a formidable outlook.
Bud was always grateful for the life he had lived and even during his illness, he faced the tumultuous times with grace and pride. As Bud’s health declined, we recognized the overwhelming need that patients and families would face as they traveled this same passage. In 2010, Bud passed with dignity and poise. He is missed dearly every day by his wife Pat, his daughters, Deborah, Brenda and Jamie and their husbands and families. Bud was the rock of his family until the very end.
The annual ALS Golf Tournament serves a bigger purpose for many people currently diagnosed as well as those that will be dealing with this in the future and there is no doubt he would be honored to contribute to this cause. The Nielsen family is proud to carry on his legacy of giving and his passion for a great day on the golf course and on his behalf…we thank you for your support!
